Customer wants me to glue down the loose part of the pick guard. Doesn't want to spend a lot on it. 1 1/2 to 2 inches loose at the bridge end. Can it be easily glued down? What glue? Suggestions?

Shouldn't spend much on it, either. Given my druthers, I'd send the owner out to get some double stick carpet tape and DIY it. . .

Probably just as easy to pull it the rest of the way off and re-attach with some adhesive film.

I'd pull it off, flatten it out, and use the stewmac double sided tape to stick it back down.
Looks like it's pretty close to needing a neck reset.

What Frank said but if you must deviate and pull the sucker off here are some tips.

Orrient the instrument in your vice so that the lifted part is upwards. Put some Naptha (sp?) in a little bottle with an eye dropper and drip it down into the remaining adheasive and carefully...... let the Naptha release the adheasive as you gently peel the thing off. Be careful not to bend it much or crease it either or that will be an issue putting it back on.

If it was actually glued on and some were use pallet knives with care.

Once off clean all remaining adheasive or glue, use 3M pickguard stuff From Stew-Mac and reinstall. If you know the "hinge" trick for locating pickguards you are good to go. If not ask and I will let you know how it works.

On Martins with warranty work we have to apply finish under the guard and build it up to level with the rest of the finish as per Martin specs these days. On this one no need to bother.

Thanks Hesh. I have a Martin that I'm working on now and have been trying to decide if the "right thing to do" is to build up the finish or glue to the wood. If Martin says to do it, I'm going with my gut and doing it. This guitar needs some finish work anyway so the decision was pretty much made.

Thanks for the input all. The customer has decided to go with the carpet tape stick down for now and if it continues to lift will consider a more permanent fix at a later date.
